I owned a cottage in Brockham in the early 1980s at Old Barn Cottage 24 The Borough.it had a small old barn covered in Horsham slate in the garden. The place next door used to originally be a pub and we had hops growing around the hedge in the garden. Jack Blanch lived almost opposite and owned the field which we overlooked.I am abroad for a while but look forward to following this website. I can certaily throw in some history about the cottage if you haven't already got it.
Regards, Derek Hawarth

I'm attaching a photo I took of Bequest Cottage in Wheelers Lane in 1985. My first husband Alastair Hodge and I were the first private owners after it had been inhabited by the district nurses. It had laid empty for two years and was a serious renovation project, with rising damp and plants growing inside! I remember clearing out all the nurses' medical equipment and bandages from the bathroom cupboards. The rope in the photo out the boundary which subdivided the large garden (the health authority sold the garden as a separate plot, allowing the modern house next door to be built in 1986).
The house has been extensively renovated since then and extended. The current owners have done a great deal of research I believe. However as far as I remember, Bequest and Foxholme were built as one cottage in around 1820.
Great work! congratulations!
